Position Summary
Under the direction of the Library Director, the Library Assistant assists with the day-to-day operations of the Library. This includes circulation, reference, selection and processing, special programming, public computer assistance, and outreach. This position is located in Watford City, ND and scheduled for Monday – Friday, with the possibilities of some Saturdays. Hours are 9:45AM - 6:15PM; may vary on Wednesdays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
- Create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the Library
- Answer inquiries and locate books and publications for the general public
- Assist with daily Library duties including opening, closing, reader’s advisory, directional reference questions, helping people locate materials, faxing and copying
- Use an integrated book system to circulate books and other materials according to exact standards and policies
- Process and sort materials of various types according to specifications and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas
- Register new patrons and issue Library cards
- Check Library materials in and out to patrons
- Create, edit, and maintain patron accounts
- Assist with Library events and displays; including programming
- Host events, such as Storytime, as assigned
- Assist the public with troubleshooting and usage of computers and other public access electronics
- Operate the Bookmobile and perform all tasks as necessary during assigned routes
- Assist in the creation and distribution of promotional materials, both electronically and via print
- Sort books, publications, and other items according to classification code
- Answer the phone, organize files, and perform other routine clerical tasks
- Other duties as assigned for business need
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years’ of administrative support or customer service experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to report to Watford City, ND daily at required schedule time
- Knowledge, interest and appreciation of literature and other information available at the Library
- Extensive knowledge of computers, computer programs, scanning equipment and various office machines, modern office practices, procedures, equipment, record keeping and filing systems
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills
- May be subject to travel
- Physical requirements and working conditions:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively

Salary Range: $23.06 – 24.96 per hour - DOE
