PeaceHealth is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a Non Employee-Nurse, Resp Therapy, Clinical Support, 0.90 FTE, Variable position. The bill rate for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $92. This is an all inclusive bill rate.
Job Summary
Cares for the Cardio-Pulmonary needs of all assigned patients, from those who are undergoing routine diagnostic procedures to those requiring more complex critical care support, intervention, and transport support, as applicable to care setting. The work requires a team focus working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team aimed toward the best outcome for the patient and organization.
Essential Functions
- Provides respiratory care to include diagnostic testing, oxygen and medication delivery, bronchial hygiene, arterial/capillary blood gas draw and analysis, advanced airway, and life support.
- Patient assessment including the ability to monitor labs, hemodynamics, and radiology findings. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individual patient care appropriate to the age of the patients.
- Calibrates, cleans, sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots all patient related equipment and instruments. Assembles and stores cleaned equipment.
- Participates in in-house educational in-services inter and intradepartmental as well as attending outside seminars and workshops, as requested by Manager.
- Participates in various intermittent department tasks including, but not limited to, audits, quality assurance, statistical record keeping, patient charting and other special projects as specified by Manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Accredited Program Required: Respiratory Care Program 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program or approved alternative education as outlined in the state regulatory requirements and
- Required: Must pass the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist exam within 6 months of hire
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years Preferred: Experience in acute care as a Respiratory Therapist and
- Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in a pulmonary function lab and
- Preferred: Experience in ICU, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics
Credentials
- Required: Respiratory Care Practitioner - Oregon or
- Required: Respiratory Care Practitioner - Washington Washington caregivers who were employed as of 6/29/2014 and who are licensed RCP but are not registry eligible due to the educational requirement (i.e., began working as a respiratory therapist when a 2-year degree was not required/available) will be grandfathered for this requirement and
- Required: within 6 months Registered Respiratory Therapist and
- Required: Basic Life Support
Skills
- Proficient with MS Office applications. (Required)
- Must be able to set up, operate, and troubleshoot all respiratory or pulmonary function related equipment, as applicable, in a quick and efficient manner. (Required)
- Must be able to quickly assess acute, critical care situations and respond with a decisive and appropriate course of action. (Required)
- Good time management skills. (Required)
Department / Location Specific Notes
Additional Essential Functions of RTs in Hospital (inpatient):
- May act as a member of trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rapid response teams.
- Responsible for ventilator and Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) management including ensuring safe, evidence-based setting with appropriate changes.
- May become trained as a core therapist in an ICU or diagnostics area (e.g., PFT or Sleep Lab) to meet department needs.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation (within Cardiac Rehabilitation department) -- Riverbend, Southwest, and St. Johns.
- Minimum one year of pulmonary rehabilitation experience required.
- If no applicant meets the pulmonary rehabilitation requirement, candidates with the following knowledge and experience will be considered:
- Experience exercising, monitoring, and developing exercise prescriptions and individualized treatment plans for patients with cardiovascular and/or pulmonary disease and/or other comorbid conditions
- Demonstrated skill in ECG recognition
- Able to articulate knowledge of the pulmonary rehabilitation industry
- Obtained Pulmonary Rehab Certificate- AACVPR-AARC
- Knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Rehab Monitoring equipment.
Ketchikan Medical Center:
- PALS, ACLS and BLS are all required upon hire.
- NRP certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- ACLS required for staff conducting stress tests.
St. Joseph Medical Center:
- PALS, ACLS, and BLS are all required upon hire
- NRP certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
United General Medical Center: (Sedro Woolley):
- ACLS and BLS required at time of hire
- PALS and NRP preferred
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Group:
- CPFT or RPFT certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of electronic EMR’s and EPIC.
- Knowledge of Medgraphic equipment a plus.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center:
- NRP certification must be obtained within a standard grace period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements, or upon hire.
- PALS certification must be obtained within a standard grace period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements, or upon hire.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Group:
- CPFT or RPFT certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of electronic EMR’s and EPIC.
- Knowledge of Medgraphic equipment a plus.
St John Medical Center:

Sacred Heart Medical Center - RiverBend and University District:
- ACLS – must be obtained within a standard grace period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements, or upon hire.
- NRP certification – must be obtained within a standard grace period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements, or upon hire.
- PALS - must be obtained within a standard grace period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements, or upon hire.
- RRT required at time of hire, if applicant has been graduated from program longer than 1 year.
- Temporary licensure acceptable for new hires. Must obtain permanent licensure before expiration of temporary license. Temporary license is valid for 6 months and may not be renewed.
- Follow requirements of OAR 331 Division 30.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant obtaining permanent licensure.
Peace Harbor Medical Center:
- ACLS, NRP and PALS certification must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire or transfer.
- May become trained as Pulmonary Rehab Therapist or in CardioPulmonary diagnostic testing (PFT, Cardiac & Pulmonary Monitors, Cardiac Stress testing) to meet outpatient needs.
- CPFT or RPFT certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of electronic EMR’s and EPIC.
*Knowledge of Sensormedics equipment a plus.
Cottage Grove Community Medical Center:
- ACLS, BLS, and RRT – required upon hire or transfer.
- NRP, PALS certification – must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire or transfer.
Working Conditions
Lifting
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
- Lifting (non-patient)/carrying occasionally up to 25 lbs.
- Push/Pull: 1-25 lbs. of force occasionally (i.e., moving equipment).
- Stooping/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling occasionally.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting or in office environment.
Mental/Visual
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
