Essential Functions
- Manage daily operations, supervise personnel, ensure functionality of equipment, and coordinate the provision of patient care services. Collaborate with the department management team in planning, program development, human resource management, budget planning, customer satisfaction, patient safety, communication, and compliance with AASM and hospital agencies.
- Provide overnight sleep studies to patients as scheduled and as necessary.
- Monitor staffing and maintain department productivity. Evaluate service needs and volumes and adjust staffing levels accordingly. Maintain effective and appropriate staffing and staff scheduling to ensure safe, quality patient care. Provide communication to associates and physicians through rounding, huddles, staff meetings, and other forms of communication to relay updates regarding department updates, organizational activities, financial performance, educational opportunities, and interdepartmental activities.
- Oversee and coordinate compliance for the department. Lead problem-solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care, and service. Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate that department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Ensure coordination of care with other departments to promote the highest level of patient care and satisfaction. Participate in interdisciplinary committees throughout the organization.
- Manage human resource functions such as interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure
development of department staff. Maintain personnel files, including documentation of appropriate staff orientation, competency, training, discipline and performance reviews. Oversee department timekeeping and payroll. Collaborate with HR concerning employee issues and performance. Develop, coordinate and monitor all employee orientation, competency, and education. Conduct employee coaching, counselling, disciplinary actions and annual appraisals. Monitor staff adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Uphold the responsibility of keeping communication with interpreting physicians so that interpretations of sleep studies are completed in an appropriate amount of time.
- Manage patient results and ensure they are copied/scanned into the hospital EMR as well as faxed to the referring physician so results can be distributed to the patient in an appropriate amount of time.
- Assure compliance with all regulatory agencies and accreditation status.
- Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education.
- Collect, analyze, and accommodate patient information in order to identify and meet specific patient needs such as physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding testing procedure, as well as medical/social history.
- Must be competent and confident in their ability to follow established protocols for PSG, Split-night, PAP Titration (CPAP, Bi-Level, Auto-Servo Ventilation), End Tidal CO2 monitoring, and O2 qualification/titration.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Graduation from AMA approved program for Polysomnography, Electroencephalography, or Respiratory Therapy program is required.
- Current Registered Sleep Technologist, Registered EEG technologist, or Registered Respiratory Therapist required.
- Current license for Sleep Technology, Electroencephalography, and/or Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- Current CPR/BLS certification required within six (6) months of transfer or hire.
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience in Sleep Medicine, Neurodiagnostics and/or Respiratory Therapy required.
