Job Description
Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Provide specialized stepdown nursing care for patients admitted to the ER holding unit, delivering critical support for a diverse patient population including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, and critical care cases. This contract role requires a highly skilled RN with recent experience in Progressive Care or similar settings, comfortable managing a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:4-5 with adjustments for patient acuity.

Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care in the ER holding unit, applying a stepdown skillset.
- Monitor cardiac telemetry using Spacelabs monitors; independently interpret and document strips.
- Collaborate with respiratory therapists who manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment.
- Support timely patient transport to imaging (X-ray, CT) coordinated by dedicated techs.
- Adhere to unit protocols and participate in department-specific orientation to ensure smooth onboarding.
- Maintain compliance with safety and security protocols, including working in an ER environment with 24/7 in-house security and seclusion rooms.
- Work a schedule with a minimum of six weekend shifts every six weeks, includes holiday shifts as per department needs.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Active GA or Compact RN license, BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in PCU, or 1 year PCU plus 1+ year in Telemetry/ER/ICU.
- Previous successful completion of at least one travel nursing assignment strongly preferred.
- Recent professional references from travel assignments mandatory.
- Ability to work within a 100-mile radius from Port Wentworth (driver's license copy required).
Schedule/Hours:
- Approximate ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients (adjusted based on acuity)
- At least 6 weekend days/nights in a 6-week rotation
- No floating or on-call requirements
- Navy scrub dress code
