Job Title:Post Doctoral ScholarDepartment:Arts and Sciences | Earth Sciences

Post Doctoral Scholar to join the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University studying the impacts of climate change on corals, the underlying drivers of coral resilience, and technologies that can help increase coral restoration success. The postdoc will be involved in ongoing projects evaluating the efficacy of UZELA (Underwater Zooplankton Enhancement Light Array) in coral restoration and the development and testing of a new 3D mapping tool. Duties include conducting laboratory and fieldwork, including underwater fieldwork, centered around the research projects; leading fieldwork; preparing and submitting two manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals per year; and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Other responsibilities include presenting at a scientific conference and participating in the Office of Postdoctoral Studies career development workshops. The postdoc will be provided mentoring and training so that they can develop a research project within the scope on ongoing projects, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and lead field campaigns. Some of the work will be conducted in the tropics with potential fieldwork in Florida, Saudi Arabia, or Hawaii for up to four weeks at a time twice a year and travel to one conference. The position is for two years with a possibility of a third year starting September 2026. Qualifications: PhD in Biology, Earth Science, Marine Science or a related field by the time of hire is required, along with a strong theoretical or practical background in coral physiology, isotope biogeochemistry, image analysis, univariate and multivariate statistics, and advance scuba training (minimum Advanced and Rescue Diver). Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining a laboratory and field equipment relevant to the research; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in remote locations; and a collaborative mentality towards research and mentoring. Desired skills and techniques include a record of first-authored publications and grant funding. These required and desired skills should be demonstrated through a record of peer-reviewed publications and certifications.
