Job Summary

These positions report to the Custodial Services Manager. Under supervision, oversee employees within an assigned core. Assists the Custodial Services Manager with the following: Performs quarterly building audits; provides training and/or retraining of staff; oversees special project work; inventories equipment and keys; ensures equipment is properly maintained; assists in supply orders and locker inventory; reviews work orders and performs follow up inspections for completion of work needed; works with Custodial Services Manager on performance issues; writes and conducts performance appraisals; conducts safety and tailgate meetings; provides back up coverage for supervisor and well as station coverage. Ensures equipment is properly maintained and custodial inventory is maintained. May assist other supervisors. Performs other assignments as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience supervising custodial, housekeeping, facilities maintenance, environmental services, or related personnel, including responsibility for staffing, work direction, inventory management, budget administration, purchasing, and operational oversight.
  • Experience performing and overseeing facility cleaning operations, including the use of cleaning equipment, tools, and products, and application of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting procedures.
  • Experience using computers and software applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
  • Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of established safety procedures in the use and handling of hazardous materials and toxic waste.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing custodial supervisory personnel including recruitment, training, work assignments, setting expectations, evaluating performance, and providing recognition or corrective action.
  • Organizational skills to ensure adequate staffing and project scheduling to achieve timely progress on multiple, simultaneous projects, meet deadlines, prioritize and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Skills to develop, implement, and conduct technical training and safety programs.

The Custodial Services department prepares our laboratories, classrooms and indoor spaces for the rigors of research and teaching at the highest level. Our goal is to provide quality, consistent services that are responsive to our customers' diverse needs. This position receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Instructs direct reports to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility. May perform custodial duties part of the time.

Work Environment

Work Environment This is an exempt position. The workweek for full-time exempt employees is normally considered to be 40 hours; however, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to the position than on working a specified number of hours. Exempt employees do not receive overtime compensation or compensatory time off or additional compensation beyond the established salary for the position. Work a non-standard work schedule that may include nights, weekends, or alternative schedules. This position supports critical campus functions operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. To assure adequate support of these functions the employee may be required to participate in a rapid response program to facilitate timely return of staff to the campus as required to meet critical needs. This rapid response program may include requirements for the employee to inform the University how they can be reached during non-working hours, to carry University provided radios, cell phones, pagers or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the campus and employee during non-work hours, or to accept rotating on-call responsibility which could periodically restrict the off-campus movements of the employee.
