Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for complex cardiovascular and thoracic cases, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety
• Support CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacements, TAVR and VAD procedures as a skilled CVOR scrub
• Prepare, maintain and document surgical equipment and crash cart readiness
• Perform and oversee cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing to facility standards
• Circulate effectively during cases—anticipate surgeon needs and coordinate the OR team
• Chart procedure notes and documentation using EPIC with accuracy and timeliness
• Maintain aseptic technique, sharps safety, and adherence to universal protocol (time-out)
• Assist in trauma Level I activations and high-acuity cases with calm, decisive action

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required (HARD STOP: minimum 5 years CST experience)
• Minimum 5 years total CST experience with at least 2 years dedicated to cardiac & vascular
• Minimum 1 year CVOR experience and 1 year working in a Level I Trauma facility
• BLS certification required
• Experience with cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing and crash cart management
• Comfortable charting in EPIC and working in fast-paced, high-acuity OR settings
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Education

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
• BLS certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Aseptic technique, isolation precautions and universal protocol (time-out)
• Scrub and circulate skills for General OR, CVOR, thoracic and vascular procedures
• Hands-on familiarity with CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacement, TAVR and VAD cases
• Instrument reprocessing for cardiovascular/thoracic sets and care of scopes/fiber optics
• Equipment documentation, case cart setup, cell saver and electrosurgical units operation
• Trauma-informed workflow for Level I trauma activations
• Basic emergency management and crash cart proficiency
• Proficient charting in EPIC and clear intra-team communication
