Summary of Function: 
Supports Commercial Driver’s License program activities and provides instruction to provide adequate standards of practice.

Typical Duties: 

  • Serves Students. Provide program oversight for the CDL program requirements for on and off-campus instruction, including multiple College campuses across the service district. Provide instruction for CDL coursework in conjunction with serving as program coordinator engaging in other assignments and duties.
  • Creates and prepares for events and activities (both in the community and on campus) with the purpose of student recruiting to grow the program.
  • Responsible for clear, accurate course and instructor scheduling. Supports part time instructors. Creates course content and materials as needed to support program requirements and instructional content.
  • Maintains student and program files under FERPA and other privacy guidelines. Responsible for inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Answers inquiries ranging from routine to complex subjects for the CDL program.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and outlined processes for the maintenance of program sites and activities in coordination with the Dean.
  • Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in the discipline, OR
  • Associate’s degree, certificate, licensure at the highest level being taught, OR
  • Qualify under the occupational experience requirement for career, technical, and professional credential fields with three full-time years (or equivalent). Documentation of work experience must demonstrate currency and relevance to the course content and student learning outcomes with the following experience:
    •More than three full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in the specific credential field, AND
    •One year of which the work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field, OR
    •Three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-secondary teaching experience in the credential field within the past five years
  • Meet qualifications as outlined under institutional procedure, Faculty Credentials

Additional Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Minimum of two years of experience working as a truck driver or two years of experience working as a behind-the-wheel commercial motor vehicle instructor
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate Endorsements (Class A)
  • Prior teaching experience as a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) instructor is preferred, but not required; experience must be demonstrated on application materials

Position Type & Work Schedule:

  • Part-time
  • Up to 19 hours per week, in-person and on-campus or at the approved campus training location
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of the academic or technical discipline being taught
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize instructional technologies and learning platforms including learning management system
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications especially those specific to the department operations
  • Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one’s own time
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate Endorsements (Class A)
  • Ability to utilize appropriate instructional strategies and educational technology for various modalities
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to provide assistance in a professional, civil, and supportive manner

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an open office environment with staff, students, and community contact and interruptions
  • Working environment may include various locations across the service district, with varying noise levels, indoor and/or outdoor locations as needed to support program, department or institutional needs
  • Must be able to perform duties in a variety of weather conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
  • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times, a minimum of 10 pounds
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
  • Safely and appropriately operate golf carts or district vehicles
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises

Travel:

  • Required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation, and as needed to support program, department, and institutional needs
