Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position at a high-acuity PCU/MS Tele unit, with an OH or compact RN license required and oncology experience preferred.
Details
- Mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds, caring for medical oncology patients
- Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to blood cancers, with a high-acuity profile
- Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs
- Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Bladder Scanner, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, and Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Day/Night rotating contract option available — shift assignments (days, nights, or a combination) are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
- Self-scheduling: candidates submit preferred schedule requests prior to the final schedule being posted
- Weekend shift requirements are variable
- Float required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Requirements
- Active RN license in Ohio (OH) or a Compact state currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of oncology experience preferred, but not required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- Chemotherapy competency is not required
- Pediatric experience is not required
Additional Information
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Orientation consists of the first week Mon–Fri on dayshift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Chemotherapy training is available: the facility offers a 2-day chemo course for interested candidates seeking professional development
- Pediatric patients are occasionally cared for on this unit but are extremely rare and are typically managed by permanent staff
- Candidates who have previously worked at this health system are eligible to change representation without a required break between assignments (except Sterile Processing Techs, who require a 30-day break)
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years are required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
