Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 3 years of OR experience across multiple service lines.
Details
- Work in a 23-room OR at a 562-bed acute care hospital designated as a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet facility
- Alternating shift schedule: 10:45–21:15 or 12:45–23:15 (4x10-hour shifts)
- One weekend shift required per month
- On-call required approximately once per week
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate facility is required of all travelers
- Covers all service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
- Patient cases span general surgery, bariatric, neurology, orthopedic, plastic surgery, transplant/organ donation, urology, and trauma
- Required general surgery cases include appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure, and laparoscopic-assisted procedures
- Required neuro cases include cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion
- Required orthopedic cases include arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and open/closed reduction of fractures
- Required plastic surgery cases include free flap microvascular procedures
- Required urology cases include cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy
- Required trauma cases include amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and MVA with multiple injuries
- Required equipment experience includes electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
- Charting is done in Cerner (experience preferred)
- Block scheduling is not available for this position
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required; must be in hand or in active application process
- Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards not accepted)
- CNOR certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of OR experience required
- General OR and trauma experience required
- Level I trauma center experience required
- Laparoscopic-assisted bariatric case experience required
- Experience with emergency management protocols including code response, fire safety, latex allergy management, and malignant hyperthermia required
- Professional skills required: administration of blood products, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time Out), and urinary bladder catheterization
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- All time off requests are subject to manager review and approval
- Scrubs are provided for this role
- Free parking is available on-site with a permit obtained during orientation
