Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units within the hospital
  • 637-bed Level 1 Trauma designated academic teaching hospital, also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Individual Med/Surg units range from 20–36 beds
  • Patient population includes general inpatient Med/Surg and Telemetry cases
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6; supported by LPNs (1:4–6) and CNAs (up to 1:14)
  • Specialized skills utilized include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer operation, and management of cardiac drips including insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to HR
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Philips; Vitals: VS3; Glucose: Nova Stat Strips
  • Central telemetry monitoring unit on-site
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Float required to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Academic teaching hospital experience preferred given facility type
  • Proficiency with cardiac drips (insulin, heparin, and HR-titrated drips) required
  • Experience with trach care, chest tube management, and PIV starts required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • RNs are responsible for drawing labs off CVLs; most units use lab collect phlebotomy
  • CNAs assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, baths, bed changes, feeding, patient safety attendance, ambulation, and repositioning
  • Unit Secretary is on-unit 7A–11P; house-wide call secretary available 11P–7A
  • Charge nurse, discharge nurses, and a Resource Team that floats to all units are available for support
  • Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • PICC Team available on-site (no general IV team)
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • EKG competency exam required during onboarding; ACLS may be required if not already held
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • RN scrub color is Navy
  • Free parking is available around campus
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented

  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
