About this job
Company Overview
We are a mission-driven human services organization providing person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Los Angeles and surrounding communities. Our team is dedicated to helping each person live with dignity, independence, and meaningful connection.
Working in an energetic, team-oriented environment, we combine practical support with mentorship, advocacy, and community integration so the people we serve can pursue their goals and participate fully in everyday life.
The Opportunity
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will be the day-to-day difference-maker for adults with I/DD, helping them build skills, access their communities, and manage daily living with confidence and safety. This is a hands-on role where your patience, creativity, and reliability directly shape someone's quality of life.
This position is ideal for someone who wants more than just a job: you will gain experience in human services, build strong relationships, and have clear opportunities for growth through ongoing training, feedback, and support from leadership.
What You'll Do
- Provide person-centered support in daily living activities, including personal care, hygiene, and safe mobility, based on each client's needs and preferences.
- Accompany individuals to community activities, appointments, and recreational outings, promoting independence, safety, and positive social interactions.
- Act as a mentor, teacher, guide, and advocate, encouraging clients to build life skills, self-advocacy, and confidence in their own decision-making.
- Support clients during medical and other appointments by assisting with logistics, transportation, and effective communication with providers.
- Document services accurately, communicate clearly with your team, and collaborate with supervisors and families to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
What Success Looks Like
- Within your first 3 months, you build trusting relationships with clients and consistently follow individualized support plans and safety protocols.
- Clients you support experience increased independence in daily routines, community access, or social engagement as a result of your coaching and encouragement.
- You reliably manage your schedule, communicate clearly with your team, and handle routine challenges using good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- You actively participate in training and feedback, demonstrating growth in skills such as personal care support, documentation, and behavior support strategies.
What We're Looking For
- Strong judgment and problem-solving abilities, with a calm, patient approach to changing situations or client needs.
- Clear, respectful communication skills and a collaborative mindset when working with clients, families, and team members.
- A genuine passion for helping others, with the willingness to learn, take direction, and grow within the human services field.
- At least 21 years of age, with reliable transportation, a valid CA driver's license, and the ability to pass a background check; experience in human services or knowledge of American Sign Language is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
- Benefits for full-time roles, including health insurance, flexible schedules, and opportunities for ongoing training and development
- Job Types: Full-time and Part-time
- Day shifts with rotating weekend availability; 4-hour and 8-hour in-person shifts in the Los Angeles area
