As a Medical Records Assistant, you will perform complex clerical functions by maintaining Individual Unit Records for a habilitative facility housing 200+ persons with intellectual disabilities. You will code admissions and diagnoses, maintain accurate data regarding centralized records, uphold confidentiality of information, adhere to HIPAA regulations, and respond to other agencies, billing centers, or primary family contacts. Key duties will include:
- Assigning International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) codes on encounter forms for billing Medicare
- Purging Unit Records according to policy guidelines
- Filing documents in the appropriate charts
- Serving as assistant to the HIPAA Privacy officer
- Accessing FACT and CENNET data bases
- Completing discharges and preparing files for permanent storage
- Maintaining log books with discharge and death information

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 1st shift (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or
- Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.

- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
