Job Description
Join a large mechanical contractor as an Estimator and play a key role in winning work and setting projects up for success. In this role, you’ll develop accurate, competitive trade-specific estimates, collaborate with sales, preconstruction, and field teams, and help shape project strategy through scope analysis and value engineering. This is a highly collaborative position with meaningful involvement from pursuit through project handoff.
Position SummaryThe Estimator prepares complete and accurate trade-specific estimates and bid packages. This role coordinates scope internally and externally, performs takeoffs, gathers vendor and subcontractor pricing, and supports the preconstruction team in delivering competitive bids on time.
Key ResponsibilitiesReview plans, specifications, and addenda to identify scope, requirements, risks, and constraints
Perform detailed material, labor, and equipment takeoffs
Coordinate with sales, field teams, engineers, and project managers to verify scope and approach
Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and inconsistencies
Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
Provide value engineering input and cost-saving ideas
Prepare bid tabulations, proposals, and supporting documentation
Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and client requirements
Maintain organized estimate files and cost databases
Participate in project turnover to operations
Support a strong safety culture and zero-incident mindset
7+ years of estimating experience in construction or related trades
Strong knowledge of estimating practices, pricing, and takeoffs
Ability to manage complex or high-value estimates independently
Experience collaborating across preconstruction, sales, and field teams
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and technical training
