Job Description
Summary
We are seeking a Plumbing Designer with a background in MEP design to join a growing and collaborative engineering team. This role will focus on designing plumbing systems for a range of commercial, institutional, and multifamily projects. The ideal candidate has experience in plumbing layout, code compliance, and coordination within multidisciplinary MEP teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and layout plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas) in coordination with HVAC and electrical teams
Prepare construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and technical calculations
Review and interpret architectural and structural plans for plumbing integration
Collaborate with internal engineers, designers, and project managers throughout all phases of design
Ensure all designs meet local, state, and national codes (UPC, IPC, etc.)
Assist with site assessments, shop drawing reviews, and field support as needed
Participate in project meetings and coordinate with clients and consultants
Qualifications
2–5+ years of experience in plumbing design within an MEP environment
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field
Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Revit and/or BIM tools strongly preferred
Solid knowledge of plumbing codes and engineering principles
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work across disciplines
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
Preferred Experience
Exposure to design-build and design-assist delivery methods
Experience in commercial, multifamily, healthcare, or institutional project types
Familiarity with LEED or sustainability-focused plumbing design is a plus
