Summer Camp Counselor

Position Description: Choose Day Camp, Overnight Camp or Both, and spend your summer outside making a difference at beautiful Camp Marydale!Imagine a summer filled with campfires, canoeing, hiking trails, crafts, games, and helping girls discover what they are capable of. Girl Scouts Louisiana East is hiring Summer Camp Counselors for both Day Camp and Overnight Camp programs. This is a fun, fast-paced summer role where you will gain leadership experience, build friendships with fellow staff, and help create unforgettable camp experiences for girls.
Perfect for college students, education majors, recreation majors, or anyone who enjoys working with kids in an outdoor environment.
Training is provided, so if you enjoy working with kids and being outdoors, we encourage you to apply.2026 Camp Work Schedule and Pay Rate:May 15 - May 29, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mandatory Training and ADA Day Camp for All Counselors ($75 per day).June 1 - July 24, Day Camp: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, (7 weekly sessions, $350 per week*).June 5 - July 12, Overnight Camp: Friday through Sunday (5 weekend sessions, $210 per week*).*Pay does not stack if overlapping Day/Overnight schedules.What Youll Do-Day Camp Counselors lead and supervise campers during daytime activities and help create a fun, safe environment throughout the camp day. An overview of the job responsibilities include:Supervising campers during activities and transitionsLeading activities such as swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, crafts, sports, and outdoor recreation, games, crafts and other adventuresSupporting daily routines such as check-in, meals, and activity rotationsEncouraging teamwork, friendship, and confidence among campersWorking with other camp staff to ensure a positive and safe camp experienceEncouraging independence, confidence, and positive group experiences for campers
Following camp safety procedures and responding appropriately to emergenciesOvernight Camp Counselors perform the same duties as Day Camp Counselor and remain on-site overnight and support campers throughout the full camp experience, including daytime activities and evening routines. Interest in working with children and teens in an outdoor environment and in a variety of weather conditionsExperience working with children in camps, youth programs, recreation programs, childcare, tutoring, coaching, or similar environmentsAbility to actively participate in outdoor activities such as canoeing, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, or other camp activitiesCPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certification required (or ability to obtain after hire)Overnight counselors must be willing to live on-site during camp sessionsGirl Scouts Louisiana East provides girls with opportunities to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and explore new experiences through outdoor adventure, community service, and skill-building programs.
