Construction Estimator

Holman Masonry is seeking a detailed-oriented Project Estimator to join our leadership team in Farmville. The Estimator is responsible for the "first impression" of our projects—analyzing blueprints, quantifying materials, and submitting competitive bids that uphold our standards for quality and profitability.

In this role, you won't just be "crunching numbers." You will be analyzing complex architectural designs for residential estates and commercial developments, ensuring that every brick, block, and stone is accounted for according to "The Right Way."

Key Responsibilities

• Detailed Take-offs: Perform accurate digital or manual quantity take-offs for masonry and concrete scopes (brick, CMU, stone veneer, cast stone, etc.).
• Bid Management: Prepare and submit comprehensive bid packages for private residential and commercial public-sector projects.
• Vendor Coordination: Solicit and analyze pricing from material suppliers and specialty subcontractors to ensure competitive project costs.
• Site Analysis: Attend pre-bid meetings and perform site visits to evaluate site conditions, access, and potential logistical challenges.
• Proposal Crafting: Draft clear, professional proposals that define the scope of work, inclusions, and exclusions to protect the company’s interests.
• Hand-off Meetings: Collaborate with the Project Engineer and Field Foremen to transition awarded projects from the "bid" phase to the "build" phase.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1-2+ years of construction estimating experience. Specific experience in Masonry or Concrete estimating is highly preferred.
• Technical Proficiency: * Expertise in reading architectural and structural blueprints.
• • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Stack, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar).
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel for budget modeling.
• Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the Virginia construction market, including local labor rates and material suppliers, is a plus.
• Attributes: Analytical mindset, obsessive attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bid deadlines simultaneously.
