JOB TITLE: Clinic LPN
DEPARTMENT: Physician Clinic-Rural Health Clinic
REPORTS TO: Physician Clinic Supervisor
SHIFT: Days
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides professional nursing care within the Physicians Clinic, has initiative, flexibility and responsibility within the scope of practice for an LPN under the supervision of a clinic Provider. The nurse should have efficient communication with the clinic Provider and all ancillary hospital departments involved in the care of clinic patients.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares exam rooms for patient examinations. If applicable, prepares patient and examination room for in-office procedures.
- Greets patients and prepares them for physical examination; screens for pertinent symptoms, demonstrates efficiency in thoroughly triaging patients in a timely manner. This includes pediatric, geriatric and general patient population. Capable of triaging up to 20 patients daily.
- Assists with preparation of equipment and/or aids Provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients. Operates equipment in a safe and correct way. Assists all staff with nursing procedures in the clinic under the direction of the Provider
- Handles the Providers medications refills and Prior Authorizations on a daily basis.
- Reviews, organizes and tracks lab and radiology reports for Provider on a daily basis.
- Responsible for clinic vaccines; ordering, counting, checking dates and keeping logs.
- Responsible for monitoring temperature range on refrigerators for medicines and lab specimens.
- Attends all clinic staff meetings and mandatory educational meetings regarding the clinic.
- Efficient use of the e-mds electronic health record and all its functions with computerized charting.
- When required, meets with drug representatives and orders samples; discards out-of-date samples.
- Assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients, family, visitors, and coworkers.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments based on Providers orders.
- Cleans examination rooms and all equipment following clinic protocol after completion of all surgical procedures.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to Providers and co-workers. Is a team player and assists other clinic employees when able to.
- Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment under the direction of the Clinic Manager.

- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Wears identification while on duty. Completes annual educational requirements. Completes work within designated time.
- Keeps absences at a minimum; calls in as per policy and procedure when absence is necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding employees, patients, medical staff, etc.
- Assists in the maintenance of a neat, clean and safe clinic.
- Reports all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, to the Provider and Clinic Manager as soon as possible.
- Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to the Provider and Clinic Manager immediately.
- Practices proper body mechanics.
- Consistently uses universal precautions according to OSHA guidelines.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must possess a current and valid Louisiana LPN license.
- Must possess current CPR certification.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. that are necessary for the clinic.
- Must have patience, tact, enthusiasm and a cheerful disposition, as well as be willing to handle persons based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices
- Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Previous clinical or physician office experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel and support agencies.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the clinic.
SAFETY PRACTICES:
- Consistently follows all established Safety procedures, incident/accident protocols and precautions or universal precautions when performing duties relating to work area.
- Follows good infection control practices at all times and is familiar with Infection control policies, procedures PPE guidelines and guidance relevant to area of work.
- Practices proper body mechanics and ergonomics at all times.
- Follows established plans, policies and procedures during emergencies, such as fire evacuation, fire drills and actively participates in emergency exercises/disasters etc.
- Reports all Life Safety maintenance issues, defective equipment, etc. through the Environmental Services work order system.
