Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location: Cleveland, OH 44110
Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on intermodal heavy equipment in a fast-paced outdoor environment. This is a hands-on role requiring strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work safely and independently.
What You’ll Do
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment including forklifts, man lifts, and related machinery
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
- Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Conduct detailed inspections in accordance with OEM specifications
- Troubleshoot system and component failures efficiently
- Respond to equipment-related service requests
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
- Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies
- Assist with training team members as needed
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Support special projects and cross-train in other departments as required
What You’ll Need
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record
- 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Basic computer skills
- Own basic hand tools
- Comfortable working at elevated heights
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Comfortable working around loud machinery
- Willingness to work after-hours call-outs
- Basic knowledge of SPC fundamentals
- Ability to recognize all colors within a normal spectrum
- Ability to understand and follow railroad and company safety policies
