Job Description
Balance Staffing is hiring a Laboratory Technician I to support a high-volume wine production and quality control operation in Northern California. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with production lab experience who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This role supports both the Laboratory and Quality Control teams and plays a key role in ensuring product quality, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization
- Sample wine from tanks and barrels
- Prepare and process production samples (wine, juice, grape materials)
- Perform fermentation checks during harvest season (extended hours required)
- Maintain lab chemical and supply inventory
- Ensure proper chemical labeling and storage
- Enter and maintain accurate data records
- Conduct Quality Control (QC) checks during bottling and production
- Perform testing including:
- Vacuum
- Torque
- Volume
- Dissolved Oxygen
- CO2
- Perform end-of-line case checks for packaging compliance
- Identify quality deviations and notify leadership (authority to stop production if needed)
- Document and assist with QC hold procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of production laboratory experience (manufacturing or beverage industry preferred)
- College chemistry coursework preferred but not required
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong math skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of SOPs, GMP, and Good Documentation Practices
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and on cross-functional teams
- Flexible and adaptable in a production environment
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout shift
- Ability to visually inspect product and recognize defects
- Ability to smell and taste product as part of quality evaluation
