A fast growing software company in the safety and risk management space is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a high performing engineering team building mission critical SaaS solutions. This organization develops technology that helps organizations proactively manage risk, improve compliance, and protect their people and operations through data driven insights and workforce engagement.
This role is ideal for a hands on engineering leader who enjoys building scalable systems, coaching teams, and modernizing development practices. You will play a central role in shaping how software is built, delivered, and evolved, with a strong mandate to embed AI enabled tooling across the software development lifecycle to improve speed, quality, and engineering leverage.
The Role
As Software Development Manager, you will lead and grow a distributed engineering team while remaining technically engaged. You will guide architectural decisions, review code, and contribute directly when needed. A key responsibility is driving the adoption of AI assisted development practices, integrating AI tools into coding, testing, documentation, refactoring, and review processes in a thoughtful and governed way.
This is a blended leadership and technical role requiring credibility with senior engineers, strong execution discipline, and the ability to translate strategy into reliable delivery.
What You Will Do
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of high standards, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Drive predictable delivery in an Agile environment while improving velocity and reducing rework
- Set architectural direction and ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable system design
- Actively review and improve production code and system architecture
- Embed AI enabled tooling across the development lifecycle and measure its impact on quality and efficiency
- Partner closely with product, design, and operations to align on priorities and execution
- Manage external vendors and consulting partners with clear accountability and quality expectations
- Establish clear engineering standards, review processes, and documentation practices
- Develop engineers through structured feedback, coaching, and growth plans
- Improve automation and operational efficiency across build, test, and deployment workflows
- Track dependencies and balance priorities across multiple concurrent initiatives
What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience managing and developing software engineering teams
- Strong background working in Agile or Scrum based environments
- Hands on experience building backend systems using Node.js
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Vue.js or similar
- Solid understanding of AWS and cloud native architectures
- Confidence reviewing system design, architecture, and production code
- Familiarity with CI CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
- Experience coordinating work across functions and stakeholders
- Experience managing vendors or external development partners
- Demonstrated use of AI assisted coding tools in real world development workflows
- Ability to evaluate AI generated output for correctness, security, and risk
- Understanding of AI limitations, failure modes, and governance considerations

Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range of 150k to 180k annually
