The Medical Technologist Generalist working night shifts plays a critical role in the laboratory by performing a wide range of testing responsibilities across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases. This position involves specimen collection and processing, conducting waived, moderate, and high complexity tests on blood and body fluids, ensuring test results accuracy through quality control, managing laboratory supplies and equipment, and supporting performance improvement initiatives. The technologist also contributes to education and training of laboratory staff and students, helping maintain a safe and efficient work environment during night hours.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-analytic tasks including specimen collection and processing
- Conduct waived, moderate complexity, and high complexity testing on blood and body fluids
- Report, verify, and investigate unexpected test results
- Monitor and maintain quality control procedures
- Manage inventory of supplies and reagents
- Maintain laboratory equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges
- Manage laboratory data and assist in performance improvement activities
- Educate and train clinical laboratory science students and new laboratory staff
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and professional work habits
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1+ years recent experience in blood bank within an acute care hospital laboratory
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a related science, or bachelor’s degree with certification in a subspecialty
- Medical Technologist ASCP, CLS (NCA), or equivalent certification required
- CLIA 1988 compliance or ‘grandfathered’ Medical Technologist status accepted
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certification including BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), I(ASCP), H(ASCP), or M(ASCP)
- Experience with blood bank testing, moderate and high complexity testing
- Strong skills in laboratory quality control, specimen handling, and data management
- Proficient in laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Analytical thinking, effective communication, and mentorship abilities
Shift Differentials: $2/Hour Evenings, $3/Hour Nights & $3/Hour Weekends
