Job Description

Job Description

We are a new and growing Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine practice in Durham, NC, intentionally built around thoughtful, patient-centered care—not volume targets, RVUs, or corporate checklists.

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who wants to practice medicine with time to think, space to care, and support to grow. This is a part-time hybrid role combining in-person pulmonary visits with a mix of in-person and virtual sleep medicine care. As the practice expands, there is a clear opportunity to increase hours and take on broader clinical, administrative, and leadership responsibilities.

You’ll receive mentorship from an experienced physician while practicing with a high degree of independence and trust, in a setting that values clinical judgment, communication, and long-term professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • See patients independently with physician backup readily available
  • New consultations
  • Follow-up visits
  • Chronic pulmonary disease management
  • Sleep medicine and CPAP-related care
  • Practice medicine that prioritizes listening, education, and clinical reasoning
  • Collaborate closely 1:1 with the physician and communicate regularly with a virtual support team
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of clinical workflows as the practice grows
  • Use dictation or AI-assisted documentation tools to complete charts same day and finish work at work

Who This Role Is Ideal For

This role is well suited for clinicians at different stages of their careers who share a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

  • Early-career clinicians (with at least one year of experience in a pulmonary or sleep clinic) who want to deepen their skills in pulmonary and sleep medicine while gaining exposure to the administrative, operational, and leadership aspects of building a specialty practice. As the practice grows, there will be opportunities to help shape systems, mentor future clinicians, and take on expanded responsibilities.
  • More experienced clinicians (5+ years in a primary care setting) who are tired of high patient volumes, rushed visits, and productivity pressure, and are seeking a practice where they can spend meaningful time with patients, practice deliberately, and enjoy a sustainable pace of work.
  • What This Role Is (and Is Not)

This role is:

  • Independent practice with mentorship and collaboration
  • Quality-driven, patient-first care
  • Free of RVUs, productivity quotas, and volume pressure
  • Flexible, humane scheduling
  • An opportunity to help build and shape a growing specialty practice

This role is not:

  • High-volume or assembly-line medicine
  • Procedure-focused
  • Metric- or quota-driven
  • A corporate health system environment
