Cook – Full-time Temporary to Permanently Position

The scheduled hours for this position are as follows:

• Tuesday: 3:00–6:00 PM

• Thursday: 3:00–6:00 PM

• Friday: 7:00 AM–1:00 PM and 3:00–6:00 PM

• Saturday: 3:00–6:00 PM

• Sunday: 3:00–6:00 PM

 

 

Job Summary:

The cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents. This role ensures safe, sanitary food handling practices, maintains a clean and orderly kitchen environment and collaborates with kitchen staff to deliver high quality meals that meet residents’ dietary needs and preferences. The ideal candidate demonstrates attention to detail, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to resident satisfaction.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan menus and alternative meal options based on residents’ preferences, dietary needs, and food allergies; avoid menu redundancy.
  • Submit menus to the Administrator/Assistant Administrator for approval
  • Prepare and serve meals that are properly cooked, visually appealing, and served within established timeframes.
  • Prepare shopping lists, order food products, and assist with inventory control
  • Inspect delivered products for accuracy and quality, report discrepancies or unacceptable items
  • Maintain accurate logs for refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers
  • Rotate food and supplies; monitor expiration dates
  • Store leftovers in approved food -safe containers, labeled with date and time; discard items after 72 hrs.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment, utensils, surfaces, and appliances are cleaned and sanitized after each meal.
  • Perform routine and scheduled cleaning tasks (daily, weekly and monthly) as outlined in sanitation guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
  • Understanding food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Time management and attention to detail.

 

Qualifications

Required:

Safe Serve Certification

High School Diploma or equivalent

Ability to speak, read, and write English.

Ability to use Kitchen equipment safely and correctly

Ability to perform moderate physical activity (standing, bending, lifting, reaching)

Preferred:

Prior experience in a cooking or food service environment
