Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and motivated Rough Mill Supervisor to oversee daily operations in our rough mill. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a solid background in woodworking and/or general manufacturing, and proven forklift driving experience. This role is responsible for supervising production, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and coordinating workflow to achieve production goals.

Duties

  • Supervise and coordinate activities in the rough mill area, ensuring schedules and production targets are met.
  • Operate a forklift safely and efficiently for moving, staging, and organizing lumber and raw materials.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with maintenance as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to company safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Oversee lumber processing, cutting, and material flow through the rough mill to optimize efficiency.
  • Inspect lumber and finished components to ensure quality specifications are met.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., packing and shipping, sales, management) to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to reduce waste and increase productivity.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven forklift driving experience; valid forklift certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating forklifts safely within a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with calipers for precise measurements in production processes.
  • General understanding of rough mill and woodworking processes (cutting, ripping, planing, sorting).
  • General manufacturing knowledge (e.g. reading measurements accurately with the proper tools, basic maintenance, etc)
  • Ability to work in a physical environment (lifting, standing, and operating equipment).
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with professional English fluency
  • Operation of Woodworking machinery, such as a computerized rip-saw

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing facility with exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery.
  • Physical activity including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and operating forklifts.
