Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Van driver for our Day Support Program. This role involves providing safe and reliable transportation services to Individuals with developmental disabilities while ensuring exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in driving and will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle and assisting passengers as needed.

Duties

  • Conduct transportation support services as a Van Driver with a split work schedule between 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm.
  • Transport individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities to and from day support, residential, and work sites.
  • Assist non-ambulatory passengers in loading and unloading utilizing a wheelchair lift if needed.
  • Assist non-ambulatory passengers in manipulating their wheelchairs and securing them with belts as needed.
  • Follow regularly assigned routes and schedules, immediately reporting delays to dispatch.
  • Comply with all state and Federal laws, and adhere to Reese Family Services (RFS) van driver rules.
  • Maintain a current Virginia Driver’s License. Contact the appropriate emergency services (police, hospital, tow truck, and RFS office) in cases of an accident or breakdown.
  • Keep Program Director/Administrative Staff apprised of vehicle's condition.
  • Inform Director and/or Administrative Staff of no-shows of any consumers on the scheduled route.
  • Responsible for daily vehicle maintenance; check fluid levels (oil, transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, and gas); and tires (excessive wear and proper air pressure).
  • Ensure driver and passengers follow all health and safety protocols.
  • Maintain appropriate trip log sheets and submit daily so the Director can submit billing in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an accurate vehicle mileage sheet.
  • Provide timely transportation services to clients, ensuring adherence to schedules.
  • Assist individuals with boarding and disembarking, including those requiring special assistance.
  • Maintain cleanliness; ensure vehicle is sanitized daily and perform routine maintenance checks on vehicles to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and the program director to address any questions or concerns regarding their transportation needs.
  • Document daily activities and report any issues or incidents to the Program director promptly.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Skills & Qualification

  • Proven experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Based on the Virginia point system, the record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
  • Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at the time of interview. The record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview date.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks on vehicles as needed.
  • Excellent driving record with a valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle type being operated.
  • Capability to lift heavy items safely and assist Individuals with mobility challenges.

FBI criminal background check/ and Virginia Department of Social Services Background check. This position can require unexpected drug testing, as well as education/degree verification.
