Job Description
Quality Control Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to perform testing and analytical evaluations on thermoplastic materials, in-process compounds, and finished products. This role ensures compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting production efficiency and continuous improvement efforts.
This position offers hands-on laboratory work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with opportunities to collaborate across Production, R&D, and Quality teams.
Key Responsibilities
Testing and Analysis
- Perform routine and non-routine physical, mechanical, and analytical testing on raw materials, in-process compounds, and finished TPE products
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ASTM, and ISO standards
- Evaluate test results and ensure timely release or disposition of materials
Equipment Operation
- Set up, operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and pilot-scale equipment
- Equipment includes viscometers, durometers, FTIR, balances, ovens, presses, molding, and extrusion equipment
- Monitor equipment performance and report issues promptly
Documentation and Compliance
- Accurately record test methods, results, and observations in LIMS and lab records
- Maintain traceability and data integrity in compliance with quality systems and GLP/GMP standards
- Identify and document non-conforming materials and out-of-specification results
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA activities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and process efficiency
Safety and Team Collaboration
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Collaborate with Production, R&D, Shipping, and Quality teams
- Communicate results and quality concerns clearly to stakeholders
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in a quality control or manufacturing laboratory environment
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, or related field
- Experience in regulated industries (plastics, automotive, or medical device)
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of physical and mechanical testing (tensile, elongation, hardness, melt flow, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Familiarity with LIMS and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong communication skills and adaptability in a fast-paced setting
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and climb as needed
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required
- Ability to work in lab, office, and manufacturing environments
- Must wear required PPE
Work Environment
This role involves working in laboratory and manufacturing settings with exposure to moving equipment, noise, heat, and airborne particles. Safety protocols and PPE are required at all times.
