The Public Building Authority (PBA) is a joint public, non-profit organization created by Knox County and the City of Knoxville to develop, construct, manage, and maintain a wide range of public facilities and services on their behalf. PBA oversees major construction projects, provides long-term property and grounds management for millions of square feet of buildings—including city and county facilities, parks, and parking garages—and even handles security, telecommunications infrastructure and on-street parking operations throughout the community. Governed by an 11-member board appointed by county and city leaders, the PBA works to deliver cost-effective, professional facility services that support local government operations and enhance public spaces for residents and visitors alike.

Due to continued growth, PBA is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our Engineering & Maintenance team. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering & Maintenance, this role is essential to ensuring all PBA facilities operate at peak performance and will be responsible for maintaining and repairing building systems and infrastructure, including plumbing, carpentry, minor electrical and mechanical systems, and general facility repairs. This position plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and reliable operations across all PBA properties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responds to requests for service relating to building maintenance and repair issues or problems from building and facilities’ tenants.
  • Performs general building maintenance and repairs such as plumbing, carpentry masonry work, roof repairs and small engine repairs.
  • Assist with maintaining and repairing buildings and facilities plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
  • Assist with evaluating the condition of maintenance related equipment, tools, and parts.
    Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment.
  • Assists in the assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Assists in the installation and repair of door locks, locking mechanisms and related hardware.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of One (1) year related experience desired in a general maintenance position to include specific areas such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
