Short Order Cook

Rita’s Family Restaurant is looking for a reliable and experienced Short Order/Back Cook to join our kitchen team. We’re a fast-paced, family-owned restaurant that takes pride in delivering hot, fresh meals with speed and accuracy. The ideal candidate is efficient, detail-oriented, and ready to learn our menu and kitchen processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook a variety of short-order menu items including burgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, and breakfast foods (eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc.)

• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as flat tops, deep fryers, grills, and ovens

• Prioritize and manage multiple orders by accurately reading and organizing tickets

• Ensure timely preparation and plating of food items during high-volume shifts

• Perform basic food prep including slicing, portioning, and organizing station ingredients

• Follow all health and safety guidelines, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards

• Work as part of a team to ensure smooth kitchen operations

• Be open and responsive to training on Rita’s specific menu items, recipes, and procedures

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a short-order or fast-paced kitchen environment

• Strong multitasking and time-management skills

• Ability to read and follow tickets with speed and accuracy

• Solid understanding of food safety and sanitation practices

• Willingness to learn and follow house-specific food preparation and procedures

• Able to stand for long periods and work in a hot, fast-paced environment

• Dependable and team-oriented with a strong work ethic

Preferred:

• Experience cooking breakfast items and operating fryers

• ServSafe certification or similar (or willingness to obtain)
