Place of Performance in the Health Services Department at FCI Englewood located at 9595 W. Quincy Ave. Littleton, CO 80123

Schedule-It is estimated 38 one -hour sessions per week will be required for the Pharmacy Technician service. The number of hours worked per week for the provision of Pharmacy Technician services will not exceed 40 hours per week. The schedule is subject to change the needs of the Government.  An anticipated schedule for the provision of Pharmacy Technician services is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding Federal holidays. The anticipated schedule includes a 30- minute non-paid lunch break.

Education, Experience, and Description of Duties-

The Contractor shall possess the necessary skills, abilities, and credentials to perform services of a Pharmacy Technician (occupational code 12130). The Pharmacy technician assigned to FCI Englewood by the Contractor must possess the following qualifications: Must have a medical/technical background obtained through education or on the job training in the pharmaceutical field and be a high school graduate or equivalent. All contractors must possess a current, and unrestricted, State pharmacy technician license and be certified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Contractors must have computer and typing skills. Contractors shall provide evidence acceptable to the Clinical Director of recent testing for immunity to Tuberculosis or other communicable disease.

Scope of Services:-The services performed by the Pharmacy Technician shall include, but not limited to the following: Reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selection and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using typewriters or computer systems, preparing prescriptions for review by a BOP/Public Health Service {PHS) Pharmacist prior to dispensing, and giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate. The contractors will not fill, issue and/or deal in any way with DEA controlled substances. The contractors will not administer medication to AIC’s (conduct pill line) but may distribute medications to AIC’s after receiving training. Contractors will assist the Pharmacist in ensuring that only medications listed in the approved BOP Formulary are dispensed and will ensure that request for Non-Formulary medications are initiated and submitted to the Pharmacist for approval. Contractors should be proficient in maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and medical supplies and preparing the proper paperwork for replenishment of inventory, as well as maintaining an expiration date log to ensure that no outdated or expired stock remains in the inventory. Contractors will assist in updating patient education literature, assisting in improvement of performance studies and also assist the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the AIC’s. Contractors will maintain cleanliness in the pharmacy, which may include such activities as cleaning the pharmacy area, returning medication to stock, properly disposing of medications, shredding paperwork, and other designated tasks. The contractor will restock (or prepare medications for restocking) the electronic medication cabinet devices (Pyxis).
