Pay range: $20-$22/hour


Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused licensed optician to join our growing optical team in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The licensed optician will work closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide high-quality optical services and an exceptional patient experience.

This role involves assisting patients with selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses, performing adjustments and repairs, and educating patients on proper eyewear care. The ideal licensed optician combines technical expertise with strong communication and sales skills to support both clinical excellence and optical revenue growth.

Education & Experience Requirements for licensed optician

  • Current Arkansas state licensure as an optician
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an optical or healthcare setting
  • Strong understanding of optics and lens technology
  • Proficiency in specialized optical equipment
  • Familiarity with EHR systems preferred

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to track eyeglass and contact lens orders to determine department capture rate
  • Manual lensometry and ability to interpret and transpose prescriptions
  • Perform accurate measurements including:
  • Lens power
  • Pupillary distance
  • Multifocal segment height
  • Lens base curve
  • Vertex distance
  • Prism power
  • Knowledge of specialty contact lenses, including scleral lenses

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients to the optical shop and assist with selecting frames and lenses
  • Interpret prescriptions from ophthalmologists and optometrists
  • Recommend appropriate lens options, coatings, and frame styles
  • Educate patients on eyewear choices and proper eye care
  • Adjust and repair eyeglasses and contact lenses
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Manage and monitor optical inventory and frame displays
  • Track eyeglass prescriptions and number of scripts filled
  • Adhere to established optical protocols
  • Participate in staff and patient training programs
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in lens technology

At least two years of experience


* Measure clients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
* Design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for client according to written optical prescription or specification. Assist client with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses. Assist client with selecting frames. Measure customer for size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription. Prepare work order for optical laboratory containing instructions for grinding and mounting lenses in frames. Verify exactness of finished lens spectacles. Adjust frame and lens position to fit client. May shape or reshape frames. Includes contact lens opticians.
* Verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications.
* Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with clients' vocational and avocational visual requirements.
* Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
* Assist clients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
* Supervise the training of student opticians.
* Assemble eyeglasses by cutting and edging lenses, and fitting the lenses into frames.
* Fabricate lenses to meet prescription specifications.
* Sell goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses, and goods related to eyes, in general.
* Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
* Determine clients' current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers and clients' eyeglasses.
* Show customers how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses.
* Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit clients, using pliers and hands.
