Cannelure Operator

Position Summary:

The Cannelure Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining cannelure machines used to form grooves (cannelures) on cartridge cases, bullets, or similar cylindrical components. The operator ensures products meet strict specifications and quality standards required in ammunition manufacturing or precision machining environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate cannelure machines according to production schedules and job specifications.
  • Monitor machine operation and adjust settings to ensure proper groove depth, spacing, and alignment.
  • Inspect parts visually and with measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure conformity to specifications.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning to ensure optimal operation.
  • Record production data, including quantities produced, scrap, and inspection results.
  • Troubleshoot minor machine issues and escalate mechanical problems to maintenance when necessary.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate with quality control and other production team members to resolve defects or inefficiencies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); technical training is a plus.
  • 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably operating precision machinery.
  • Familiarity with measuring tools and basic mechanical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ammunition or metal part manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards (ISO 9001, MIL-STD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
