Overview

A leading national commercial construction contractor is seeking an experienced Regional Safety Director to oversee safety, risk management, and compliance initiatives across multiple operations along the East Coast.

This role plays a critical leadership position in strengthening safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and partnering with operational leaders to maintain high safety performance standards across the organization. The Role

The Regional Safety Director will lead and administer safety, risk, and compliance programs across multiple commercial construction projects and business units. This position combines field leadership, safety program management, regulatory oversight, and team mentorship to ensure consistent implementation of company safety standards and OSHA regulations.

The role works closely with executive leadership, regional management, and field teams to identify risk, implement preventative strategies, and continuously improve safety performance across operations.

This position requires regular travel throughout the East Coast region and hands-on engagement with project teams in active construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Field Oversight

  • Conduct regular job site visits to monitor personnel, equipment, and materials for compliance with company, state, and federal safety standards.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by mentoring supervisors, foremen, and field leadership.
  • Lead and support safety personnel with inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Maintain and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with regional and project leadership to minimize operational risk and strengthen safety compliance.

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks for field personnel and supervisors.
  • Conduct OSHA-based training programs and other construction safety courses.
  • Maintain training documentation and certification records for safety-related programs including fall protection, PPE, scaffold awareness, aerial lift operation, forklift safety, and hazard communication.
  • Mentor field leadership in implementing behavior-based safety programs and proactive risk reduction strategies.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain safety policies in accordance with OSHA regulations, internal standards, and client requirements.
  • Conduct job site risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Recommend improvements to safety programs, risk management processes, and operational procedures.
  • Prepare safety performance reports and present findings to executive leadership.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure consistent safety standards across projects.

Program Management & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training programs, audits, and incident reports.
  • Support companywide safety initiatives, compliance audits, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Assist with the development and management of safety tracking tools and reporting systems.
  • Participate in organizational safety meetings and strategic safety planning initiatives.

Travel & Field Requirements

  • Travel regularly throughout the East Coast region to support project sites and operations.
  • Conduct field audits, safety meetings, and on-site engagement with construction teams.
  • Ability to safely access active construction sites including roofing and elevated work environments.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive safety leadership experience within commercial construction, roofing, or a related industry.
  • OSHA 510 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction) or OSHA 500 (Trainer Course) required.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Additional certifications such as CHST, ASP, or CSP strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lead safety initiatives while working collaboratively with operational leadership and field teams.
