American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Asheville, NC, requiring 2+ years of nursing experience and trach care experience on a 13-week night shift contract.

  • Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting, located on the 7th floor of the main campus building
  • \n
  • 23-bed step-down unit combined with a 16-bed med/surg unit
  • \n
  • Patient population includes pulmonary step-down and med/surg patients
  • \n
  • Patient ratios: 1:3-4 for step-down, 1:4-6 for med/surg
  • \n
  • Equipment used includes lifts, chest tubes, cardiac drips, stable vented patients, and trachs
  • \n
  • EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
  • \n
  • Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • \n
  • 6 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) per 6-week period
  • \n
  • Floating required to other med/surg and progressive care units
  • \n
  • 13-week contract
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • \n
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of start)
  • \n
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • \n
  • Trach care experience required
  • \n
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • \n
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
  • \n
  • US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
  • \n
  • One professional reference required
  • \n

  • Typical procedures performed on this unit include trach care, chest tube management, and wound dressing changes
  • \n
  • Night shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, and 4 PCTs
  • \n
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • \n
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
  • \n
  • Flexibility and a high level of clinical competence are the ideal personality fit for this unit
