American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a MS/Tele Float Pool position covering a multi-facility zone in the Garden City, KS area, requiring active KS or compact licensure and a minimum of 2 years of MS/Tele experience.

Details
  • Acute care telemetry float pool position with no single home base facility — travelers float across multiple hospitals within Zone 4, centered around Garden City, KS
  • Zone 4 facilities include Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital (Ulysses, KS), St. Catherine-Dodge City (Dodge City, KS), and St. Catherine-Garden City (Garden City, KS), all within a 60-mile radius of the zone center
  • Float pool covers multiple unit types including General MS/Tele, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
  • May also be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low-acuity holds within skillset) and PCU/Stepdown
  • Patient population is adult and geriatric, with common diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 based on acuity
  • Heparin drip titration is required
  • Respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is present on the unit
  • Nursing aides are available on the unit
  • Designated charge nurse on each unit; charge nurse does not routinely take a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may take a small assignment when needed
  • EMR is Epic; experience preferred
  • Alaris pump experience preferred
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Schedules are created by leadership for 6-week blocks and released 4–6 weeks in advance; travelers are expected to be flexible to fill scheduling gaps
  • Two scheduling formats are used: Option A (assigned to a single facility for the week, with possible intra-facility floating) and Option B/Just-In-Time (facility assignment communicated 1–2 hours before shift start)
  • 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • 13-week contract
Requirements
  • Active KS or compact (NLC) RN license required; license must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele experience within the last 3 years required
  • Candidates must reside at least 60 miles from the Garden City, KS zone center; a valid driver's license is required to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full 60-mile zone — this requirement applies regardless of where housing is obtained
  • Float assignments are communicated in advance of each schedule; the first float assignment will be confirmed on or before the Monday start date
  • All time off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
  • Holiday rotation coverage may be required
  • On-call/standby requirements are rare and typically related to low census
  • Travelers must be on-site in Kansas for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely; orientation is 12 hours
  • Prior neuro nursing experience is preferred
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Interview process is conducted by the MedSol Clinical Team with no unit manager involvement
