Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience, active ME or compact RN license, and night shift availability.

Details
  • Night shift position: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts), 36 hours per week
  • Labor & Delivery unit within a high-volume hospital performing approximately 1,800 deliveries per year with an on-site Level III NICU
  • Unit includes 7 labor rooms, 2 OBED triage rooms, 2 triage rooms, 2 OR suites, and PreOp/PACU within the labor room
  • Postpartum/Antepartum/GYN/Mother-Baby unit consists of 25 beds adjacent to the L&D unit; L&D RNs may monitor overflow Antepartum patients
  • Common patient diagnoses include PIH, GDM, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, multiples, fetal loss, drug addiction, and cervical ripening
  • Patient ratios: Cervical Ripening 1:1–3, Laboring 1:1–3, Active Labor 1:1, Couplet/Postpartum/Antepartum up to 3 M/B couplets or 3 Antepartum/NICU moms
  • Newborn care responsibilities may include documenting feeds, vitals, and assessments for babies when mother requires continuous surveillance (e.g., Mag x 24 hrs)
  • Typically 4 scheduled events per day (C-sections, versions, etc.)
  • EMR: Cerner with Fetal Link; IV pumps: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Fetal monitoring: Fetal Link (remote at bedside and nurses station)
  • May float to Mother-Baby unit for Antepartum, Postpartum, or occasional Mother-Baby coverage (24-hour newborn labs performed by core staff)
  • Weekend rotation required: at least 4 out of every 8 weekend shifts per schedule, which may be consecutive
  • No on-call required; optional call shifts may be available
  • Holiday rotation required
Requirements
  • Active ME or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and MOAB
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment at a facility of comparable size and acuity — first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Required clinical skills: Pitocin titration, fetal scalp electrodes, cervical exams, epidural placement assistance, insulin drip management, magnesium drip management, shoulder dystocia management, circulating C-sections and/or receiving baby in OR, neonatal resuscitation, IUPC placement assistance and monitoring, lactation support, and safe skin-to-skin protocol
  • Candidates must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility to be eligible
  • Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity
  • Two professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (peer references not accepted)
  • Copies of all current certifications required
  • Driver's license required
  • Full SSN required
  • Flu vaccination required for employment clearance (medical exemptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
Additional Information
  • Rooming-in model used for Mother-Baby care; lactation support provided by CLC and IBCLC staff in the labor room (facility is not Baby Friendly designated)
  • Unit support includes 24/7 charge nurse coverage, CST, anesthesia, house supervisor, RT, OB provider on-call, family medicine residents with attending backup, and certified midwife coverage
  • Unit secretary and Bed Flow Facilitator available on day shift only; phlebotomist available for subsequent lab draws
  • Orientation consists of approximately 3 days: one day with HR/preceptor, one day of OR/PACU training, and one day with a preceptor on the night shift (for night-shift contracts)
  • Scrubs provided on-site via scrub machine (Navy color); street clothes worn to and from work
  • Free parking available on-site
  • All RTO requests require manager approval and must be submitted at the time of consideration
