Position Summary

Ripple Effect Consulting is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to support projects across multiple Ohio locations, including Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton.

Please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must have current authorization to work in the U.S.

This role serves as a key field leadership position within the surveying and geomatics team. The Senior Survey Crew Chief will oversee daily field operations, guide survey crews, and ensure accurate data collection across a variety of project types such as boundary, transportation, aviation, energy, and land development surveys. Working closely with the Survey Team Leader, this individual will play a critical role in maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency in field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Direct and manage survey crews performing boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveys 
  •  Operate and maintain field equipment including total stations, GNSS systems, scanners, levels, and data collectors 
  •  Document fieldwork through detailed notes, sketches, and records 
  •  Execute projects in alignment with defined schedules, scope, and quality expectations 
  •  Utilize survey software to download, process, and validate field data 
  •  Identify and resolve field challenges to keep projects on track 
  •  Communicate progress updates, issues, or delays to leadership in a timely manner 
  •  Enforce safety standards, including PPE compliance and equipment inspections 
  •  Mentor and support junior crew members, contributing to their development and performance 
Qualifications & Experience

  •  Associate or bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience (5+ years) 
  •  Certifications such as CST, OSHA, or successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying exam are a plus 
  •  FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification preferred 
  •  Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with clients and internal teams 
  •  Solid understanding of surveying methods, principles, and industry standards 
  •  Ability to interpret survey data, plans, and mapping information 
  •  Proven leadership and organizational capabilities 
  •  Working knowledge of survey-related math (e.g., elevations, slope, volume, etc.) 
  •  Familiarity with Subsurface Utility Engineering (ASCE 38-22), including utility locating technologies, is advantageous 
  •  Proficiency with survey instruments and data processing software 
  •  Experience locating boundary monuments and section corners 
  •  Willingness to travel and work extended hours as project needs require 
  •  Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and survey data systems 
  •  Valid driver’s license with a clean record required 
  •  Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, including drug testing 
Physical Requirements

  •  Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions 
  •  Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting (up to 100 lbs occasionally) 
  •  Capability to navigate uneven terrain and operate field tools (e.g., hammers, shovels, machetes) 
  •  Adequate vision (close, distance, color, depth perception) for fieldwork accuracy 
Work Environment

  •  Primarily field-based, including remote or rugged project sites 
  •  Exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind 
  •  Physically active role requiring mobility and endurance
