Work Schedule: June 22, 2026 - August 21, 2026 * Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Non-Work Days: July 3rd

Summary:
The Head Cook leads kitchen operations to ensure all students are nourished and ready to learn. By coordinating food preparation and supervising kitchen staff, the Head Cook plays a key role in advancing student success and embodying the district’s four pillars:

- Supervise, mentor, and train assistant cooks, substitutes, and student workers to build a cohesive and supportive team.

- Prepare and serve meals that are nutritious, visually appealing, and aligned with USDA and district nutrition standards.
- Use standardized recipes and portion control to support student health and academic focus.
- Ensure timely, efficient meal service that supports a consistent and positive learning environment.

- Adjust kitchen operations based on attendance trends, special dietary needs, and evolving program requirements.
- Manage tasks ranging from meal production to inventory control with flexibility and precision.
- Utilize sound judgment and problem-solving skills to respond effectively to kitchen challenges.
4. Community Connections
- Work in partnership with school administrators to deliver a reliable and student-centered meal program.
- Maintain clean, safe, and inviting kitchen and dining spaces that reflect pride in the district.
- Participate in community food programs that increase access to meals during summer and throughout the school year.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of food service operation, including meal prep, service, and cleanup.
- Train and supervise food service staff, ensuring accountability and compliance.
- Oversee food and supply inventory, ordering, receiving, and secure storage.
- Maintain accurate records for meal counts, inventory, production, and ordering.
- Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment.
- Enforce and follow all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Attend required trainings and implement updated procedures from OSPI or district administration.
- Report accidents, safety issues, or facility needs immediately.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Washington State driver’s license and proof of work eligibility
- Abstract Driving Record
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Skills & Experience:
- Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience supervising teams and managing kitchen workflows
- Ability to operate and maintain institutional food service equipment
- Proficiency in basic math and written documentation
- Organizational skills for tracking inventory, orders, and compliance paperwork
- Commitment to equity, safety, and student-centered service
Working Conditions
- Active, hands-on environment with frequent standing, lifting, and food preparation.
- Exposure to moderate noise and kitchen equipment.
- Occasional outdoor duties (e.g., receiving deliveries, meal distributions).
- Safe working environment when following procedures.
Salary: $24.48 - $31.50 an hour
Benefits: One hour of sick leave for every forty (40) hours worked.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
