Work Schedule: June 22, 2026 - August 21, 2026 * Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Non-Work Days: July 3rd

Summary:
The Assistant Summer Cooks supports the Head Cook to ensure all students are nourished and ready to learn. . This position reflects the district’s commitment to its four core pillars:

- Assist with tasks such as inventory tracking, rotation of product, and production reporting.

- Help support summer food initiatives that extend meal access beyond the school setting.
- Participate in safety training and meetings that strengthen food service operations and build district-wide collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Cook in all aspects of food service operation, including meal prep, service, and cleanup.
- Assist with food and supply inventory, receiving, rotating and secure storage.
- Maintain accurate records for meal counts at designated sites.
- Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment.
- Enforce and follow all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Attend required training and implement updated procedures from OSPI or district administration.
- Report accidents, safety issues, or facility needs immediately.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Washington State driver’s license and proof of work eligibility
- Abstract Driving Record
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Skills & Experience:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to follow supervisor directions to maintain kitchen workflows
- Ability to operate and maintain institutional food service equipment
- Proficiency in basic math and written documentation
- Organizational skills for tracking meals served onsite.
- Commitment to equity, safety, and student-centered service
Working Conditions
- Active, hands-on environment with frequent standing, lifting, and food preparation.
- Exposure to moderate noise and kitchen equipment.
- Outdoor duties (e.g., receiving deliveries, meal distributions).
- Safe working environment when following procedures.
Salary: $21.65 - $27.81 an hour
Benefits: One hour of sick leave for every forty (40) hours worked.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
