Job Description

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

*Note - HVAC Repair and Preventative Maintenance, electrical, plumbing, custodial, grounds, locksmithing and carpentry experience preferred.
Position Summary
The Maintenance – HVAC / Facilities is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and supporting the operation of District facilities and building systems, with a primary focus on heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical systems. This position contributes to safe, efficient, and well-maintained learning environments while aligning work to the District’s four pillars: Meaningful Relationships, Engaged Learners, Adaptive Pathways, and Community Connections.

- Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor, building principals, custodians, and maintenance staff to coordinate work and prioritize needs
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff and stakeholders regarding maintenance and repair activities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

- Ensure safe, functional, and comfortable learning environments by maintaining HVAC and building systems
- Respond to facility needs that impact student learning and school operations
- Support preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and school grounds for student activities and events

Adaptive Pathways
- Maintain and repair heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical systems across the District
- Perform preventative maintenance including lubrication, inspections, and system efficiency checks
- Troubleshoot and repair systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, communication, and security systems
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams
- Design, fabricate, and implement custom control systems and welding projects
- Assist with carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, grounds, and structural repairs
- Maintain computerized and written records of maintenance and repairs
- Secure and manage requisitions for equipment and supplies through the Maintenance Supervisor
- Assist in coordinating and evaluating work performed by outside contractors
- Operate, maintain, and service power tools and maintenance equipment
Community Connections
- Maintain District facilities and grounds to reflect pride in the Hoquiam community
- Support facility readiness for school and community events, including athletic activities
- Assist in determining cost-effective solutions, including in-house versus contracted work
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and District expectations
- Represent the District positively through professional conduct and quality service
Essential Functions
- Maintain and repair HVAC systems, including regular filter replacement and system inspections
- Perform preventative maintenance such as lubricating motors, checking pumps, and monitoring system performance
- Conduct daily operational inspections of building systems
- Fabricate and repair equipment, including metal work such as gates and doors
- Maintain and repair building systems including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and structural components
- Assist with grounds maintenance, including lawn care and athletic field preparation
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs outside of regular working hours as required
- Maintain accurate records and required certifications
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and building codes

Working / Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions in all seasons
- Exposure to dust, noise, humidity, chemicals, paints, and cleaning solvents
- Moderate to high noise levels when working in facilities or with power equipment
- Use of personal protective equipment such as ear protection and safety glasses as required
Physical Requirements / Essential Abilities
- Ability to stand and walk without restriction
- Ability to reach, grasp, handle, and grip continuously
- Frequent bending, stooping, and squatting
- Ability to lift and carry 0–24 pounds regularly and 25–50 pounds periodically
- Occasional pushing and pulling depending on assignment
- Ability to work at heights (ladders, roofs, lifts)
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and the public
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
- Proof of citizenship
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general facility maintenance
- First Aid and CPR certification
Salary: $26.77 - $28.97 an hour
Benefits: State allocation towards dental, vision, medical insurance, retirement, 13 paid holidays, 12 sick leave days, 3 personal leave days. 10 days of vacation end loaded after one full year of employment.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
