UPMC is excited to announce that we are hiring our third class of Facilities Engineering and Maintenance apprentices. This paid program offers a pathway to skilled trades through hands-on training, mentorship, and the opportunity to develop essential skills while working in a world-renowned health system. When the apprenticeship is successfully completed, the individual is promoted to a Journeyman-1 position and will become a part of the UPMC Career Ladder structure. This role will be a paid position at the standard hourly rate of $19.67/HR.
This apprenticeship combines full-time on-the-job training with online learning through . Individuals will have the opportunity to take a PMMI certification test at the conclusion of each year. Four-year apprenticeship, four hours of class per week, and full-time on the job training.
- Hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, some overtime or weekends may be required.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, doors, fans, boilers, heat exchangers and controls.
- Assist with installation, replacement, repair, and testing of electrical circuits, equipment, wiring, appliances, systems, lighting, signals, communication, generating and distribution equipment, and power circuits.
- Maintain, test, repair and modify heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and related temperature controls and equipment throughout the facility.
- Operate, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on high-pressure boilers, boiler auxiliaries, and other related mechanical/ life safety equipment.
- Maintain daily log, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files.
- Complete Environmental Health and Safety competencies, attend bi-monthly safety meetings, complete Annual Mandatory training.
