The Lifeguard provides safety and supervision for students and patrons participating in aquatic activities. The position monitors swimming pool activities, enforces safety rules, maintains the cleanliness and safety of pool facilities, and responds to emergency situations when necessary. The Lifeguard also supports aquatic programs and may assist with basic swim instruction when assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor swimming pool activities to enforce established policies and ensure the safety and welfare of participants.
- Observe swimmers and the surrounding areas to identify unsafe conditions and prevent accidents or injuries.
- Respond to emergencies in aquatic areas to protect the life and health of individuals and assist in resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Administer first aid and CPR when necessary until additional assistance arrives.
- Maintain a sanitary and safe pool environment by assisting with cleaning the swimming pool, deck areas, locker rooms, and surrounding facilities.
- Ensure compliance with district and health department safety requirements for aquatic facilities.
- Communicate safety concerns, rule violations, or incidents to supervisors and appropriate staff.
- Work cooperatively with other lifeguards and aquatic staff to ensure proper supervision of pool activities.
- Provide basic swim instruction when assigned under the supervision of the Head Guard or assigned supervisor.
- Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and professional development related to aquatic safety and program operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the aquatic facility.

Responsibility
Works under limited supervision following standardized safety procedures while monitoring aquatic activities and ensuring a safe environment for participants.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine finger dexterity. The job generally requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing while supervising pool activities. Work is performed in aquatic environments with potential exposure to water, chemicals, and physical hazards.
Experience
Job-related experience is desired.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent plus job-related coursework.
