Respiratory Therapist Assignment Duration
This is a 13-week contract position.
ScheduleNight shift: 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
Job DescriptionThe Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, adhering to the duties within their professional license with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
- Explain the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, providing necessary education prior to discharge.
- Administer physician-prescribed routine treatments using various ventilatory and oxygen devices.
- Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
- Conduct suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
- Perform oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy.
- Review patient's chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
- Execute pulmonary function studies as per policy.
- Assist in respiratory-related procedures following protocols.
- Manage adequate drainage of the chest using appropriate devices when applicable.
- Administer tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
- Perform arterial punctures as needed, monitoring and reporting test results.
- Follow all laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling and quality controls.
- Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation in compliance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Set up and maintain mechanical ventilation and perform self-tests on ventilatory equipment.
- Record pertinent treatment information and patient responses accurately.
- Communicate effectively with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and patient progress.
- Maintain accurate documentation for respiratory therapy charges.
- Fulfill other assigned duties as required.
Qualified candidates must possess a current state license as a Respiratory Therapist and relevant certifications. Previous experience in a similar setting is preferred.
