Position Title:  Drop-In Center Case Manager SPA 6

Service Planning Area:  SPA 6 — Los Angeles County

Program Type:  Mental Health — Drop-In Center (DIC)

Schedule:  Monday – Friday | 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM


POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Drop-In Center Case Manager to join our mental health services team serving Los Angeles County Service Planning Area (SPA) 6. This part-time afternoon position is designed to provide direct case management services to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, and/or co-occurring disorders at our Drop-In Center during high-need afternoon and evening hours.

In this role, you will work within a trauma-informed, client-centered framework to connect individuals with essential services, support their recovery and stabilization, and coordinate care across the LA County SPA 6 service area. The afternoon shift is a critical time when clients most frequently seek walk-in support, making this position essential to the accessibility and effectiveness of our Drop-In Center model.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide on-site case management services to walk-in clients at the Drop-In Center during scheduled afternoon/evening hours
  • Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized service plans for clients with mental health and/or co-occurring needs
  • Connect clients to community resources including mental health treatment, substance use services, housing, benefits enrollment, and primary care
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, documentation, and client records in compliance with agency and LA County standards
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including mental health clinicians, outreach workers, and peer support specialists
  • Assist clients in navigating the LA County mental health system and other social service programs within SPA 6
  • Monitor client progress and adjust service plans as needed
  • Respond to crisis situations and coordinate appropriate interventions
  • Build and maintain knowledge of SPA 6 community resources, provider networks, and referral pathways
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision as required
  • Maintain professional boundaries while building trusting relationships with a diverse client population

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in case management, mental health services, or social services
  • Knowledge of LA County SPA 6 resources and social service systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing mental illness, homelessness, and/or substance use disorders
  • Proficiency in documentation and case management software

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a Drop-In Center or low-barrier service environment
  • Familiarity with LA County Department of Mental Health (DMH) programs and protocols
  • Knowledge of SPA 6 neighborhoods and community-based organizations serving the area
  • CPR/First Aid certification

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a Drop-In Center setting serving a high-need population in Los Angeles, CA within SPA 6. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic afternoon and evening environment and be committed to a trauma-informed, client-centered approach to care. The role requires the ability to remain calm and effective during challenging interactions, while consistently demonstrating dignity and respect toward all clients.
