Description\n

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications, and night shift availability.

  • Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level 3 trauma facility
  • \n
  • 22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and 1:10 nurse aide-to-patient ratio
  • \n
  • Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke
  • \n
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
  • \n
  • RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • \n
  • CPAP management is performed on the unit
  • \n
  • Charting is done in Epic (experience required)
  • \n
  • 12-hour night shifts; available shifts are 6:30 PM–7:00 AM and 6:30 PM–7:00 AM (cyclic scheduling)
  • \n
  • Every other weekend required
  • \n
  • One major and one minor holiday coverage required
  • \n
  • May float to ICU if appropriate experience is present
  • \n
  • 13-week contract

Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active IA RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • \n
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • \n
  • Experience in a stepdown, PCU, or progressive care setting required
  • \n
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • \n
  • Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify 50-mile radius eligibility)
  • \n
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • \n
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • \n
Additional Information\n

  • Nurses are responsible for titrating common cardiac drips and independently interpreting telemetry strips
  • \n
  • On-unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift
  • \n
  • A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the contract
  • \n
  • Fast-paced unit with high volume of admissions and discharges; successful candidates bring a positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and a patient-centered approach
  • \n
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result to contract termination
  • \n
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • \n
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront — additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
  • \n
