Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro position at a Level II Trauma, Magnet-status acute care hospital in Decatur, IL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• 13-week contract at a 372-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center
• Med/Surg Neuro unit serving a patient population that includes CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury cases
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (1800–0630)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required for all travelers
• No on-call requirements
• Charting in Cerner (experience required)
• Average daily census of 32 patients
• Required clinical skills include: telemetry/remote monitoring, rapid response team activation, colostomy care, feeding tube management, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draw, PICC line management, peripheral line care, IV starts, heparin/insulin/PCA administration, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, pre/post thoracic surgery care, oral suctioning, non-invasive airway management, surgical drain management, wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, and continuous bladder irrigation
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Parking is available at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Active BLS and NIHSS certifications required at time of consideration; AHA or Red Cross accepted (RQI AHA cards not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Proficiency in the full range of clinical skills listed in the job details section is required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
• Two professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• RTO is ideally limited to 5 days or fewer for the contract duration
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Solo travelers only — travel pairs are not accommodated
