JOB SUMMARY:

\n

To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system.

\n

 

\n

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

\n

High school diploma or equivalent.  Successful completion of EMT – Paramedic program or graduation from related allied health sciences program or one (1) year related experience.  Passing score of 80% or higher of UTMB’s arrhythmia test.

\n

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

\n
    \n
  • \n

    Operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system:
    \n o    Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
    \n o    Adjusts alarms.
    \n o    Reviews trends and alarms.
    \n o    Cleans and maintains telemetry monitors/holders and accounts for monitor upon patient discharge.
    \n o    Accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
    \n o    Orders monitoring supplies.
    \n o    Obtains and documents rhythm strips per unit/department standards
    \n o    Maintains log book on all monitored patients.

    \n •    Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic Central Station:
    \n o    Interprets EKG rhythms.
    \n o    Recognizes significant EKG events.
    \n o    Communicates information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame.
    \n o    Immediately reports significant or life threatening changes to a RN.

    \n •    Participates in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians and students as related to monitoring equipment.
    \n •    Assists with maintenance of unit equipment.
    \n o    Performs daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators.

    \n

    \n •    Maintains a safe environment:
    \n o    Ensures that equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections.
    \n o    Reports all malfunctioning equipment.

    \n

     

    \n


    \n •    Provides age appropriate interaction and care as indicated.
    \n •    Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in performance of duties.
    \n •    Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crisis.
    \n •    Respects and supports patient / family rights.
    \n •    Practices positive guest and peer relations.
    \n •    Participates in and supports quality improvement activities.
    \n •    Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment.
    \n •    Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member.
    \n •    Participates in and promotes the development of self and others.
    \n •    Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
