Details\n
    \n
  • Acute care stepdown (IMC) unit in a hospital setting
  • \n
  • 30-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6 depending on acuity
  • \n
  • Patient population includes cardiac patients, post-cath lab, post-pneumonia, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocols, and pacemaker patients
  • \n
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
  • \n
  • Cardiac monitoring is central to the role; nurses are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms — a monitor tech is available 24/7
  • \n
  • Respiratory therapy (RT) is assigned to the unit 24/7 and manages respiratory equipment (BiPAP, Airvo, trachs); nurses are expected to troubleshoot equipment as appropriate
  • \n
  • Charge nurse is present on every shift; day shift charge typically does not carry a patient assignment, night shift charge takes a lighter assignment
  • \n
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit to assist with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call lights, and blood sugars
  • \n
  • Hospitalist/attending is on-call at night; a nocturnist is available for the entire hospital overnight
  • \n
  • Charting is done in Cerner
  • \n
  • 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (6:45 AM–7:15 PM / 7 PM–7:15 AM)
  • \n
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required
  • \n
  • 13-week contract
  • \n
Requirements\n

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
  • \n
  • Comfort with cardiac monitoring and management of cardiac drips required
  • \n
  • Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
  • \n
  • Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (charge RN or equivalent)
  • \n
Additional Information\n
    \n
  • Orientation consists of 2 days of general hospital orientation followed by 1 day with a unit preceptor
  • \n
  • Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to any inpatient unit
  • \n
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • \n
  • Holiday rotation coverage may be required
  • \n
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • \n
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • \n
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying; cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities applies toward the 1-year maximum
  • \n
