  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing\n
  • Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience required; OR/perioperative, SDC, PAT, or endoscopy experience preferred\n
  • Prior Surgical Day Care (SDC), Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Endoscopy, or Operating Room (OR) experience preferred\n
  • Current Massachusetts RN license required\n
  • Current ACLS and PALS certifications required (critical for perioperative / OR nursing)\n
  • IV certification preferred; proficiency in peripheral IV insertion required\n
  • Strong nursing assessment skills, patient safety focus, and ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment\n
\n\nResponsibilities (Perioperative / OR Nurse)\n

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care goals for pre-op, intra-op, and post-op patients\n
  • Provide patient care based on standards of practice, protocols, and established policies for surgical patients\n
  • Deliver patient and family teaching based on identified needs and readiness to learn (pre-op and post-op education)\n
  • Collaborate in discharge planning and coordinate resources for day surgery and inpatient surgical patients\n
  • Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others while promoting a safe operating room environment\n
  • Prioritize patient care, respond to perioperative emergencies, and assist with crisis interventions when needed\n
  • Document all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner\n
  • Provide thorough handoff reports to ensure continuity of care between pre-op, OR, PACU, and inpatient teams\n
  • Promote learning for colleagues and self through preceptorship, continuing education, and professional development\n
  • Identify risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical errors in the perioperative setting\n
  • Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy as indicated for surgical patients\n
  • Assess and manage patient pain levels, documenting effectiveness and response to interventions\n
  • Perform pre-admission testing and coordinate ancillary testing for day surgery patients (PAT/SDC coordination)\n
  • Review pre-operative orders, verify completeness of preoperative charts and paperwork, and consult with surgeons/anesthesiologists as needed\n
  • Provide emotional support to patients undergoing surgery and initiate post-operative follow-up, including phone calls to SDC patients\n
