Job Description
Summary
A well-established heavy civil and public works contractor is seeking an Estimator to support preconstruction efforts across infrastructure-focused projects throughout the Greater LA County area. This role is centered around estimating complex site and civil scopes including water/wastewater facilities, pump stations, underground utilities, and public-use infrastructure.
This is a strong fit for someone with a background in public works or heavy civil who wants consistent pipeline, meaningful projects, and the ability to work on infrastructure that directly impacts local communities.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for public works and heavy civil construction projects
• Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications for sitework, utilities, and concrete scopes
• Analyze drawings, specs, and bid documents to develop accurate pricing
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors, subs, and industry partners
• Assist in bid preparation, proposal development, and submission
• Identify risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options
• Collaborate with project managers and operations during bid handoff
• Track historical cost data and support continuous improvement of estimating processes
Requirements
• 4-7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil or public works construction
• Strong experience with sitework, underground utilities, or infrastructure projects
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and bid documents
• Experience with takeoff and estimating software
• Understanding of public agency bidding processes preferred
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Comfortable working in a team environment with operations and field teams
• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
